The Peggy & Molly Animated Series is proud to announce that Chern’ee Sutton, multi-award-winning contemporary Aboriginal artist, proud Kalkadoon woman, and Queensland Reconciliation Awards Ambassador, has joined the project as the exclusive designer for Terry the Turtle’s shell.
Terry, the wise and wonderful storyteller of the series, will now become a conduit for sharing Rich Cultural Stories and Reconciliation with children across Australia and around the world. Through Chern’ee’s design, Terry’s shell will be transformed into a visual canvas of Aboriginal culture, offering young audiences a vibrant and authentic introduction to these ancient narratives.
In addition to her artistic contribution, Chern’ee will serve as an Indigenous Ambassador for the Peggy & Molly Animated Project. This partnership ensures the series remains quintessentially Australian while adding a rich new layer of education—teaching children not only about friendship and acceptance, but also about the deep traditions and stories of Australia’s First Nations people.
Chern’ee Sutton’s career is a remarkable story in itself. Mentored in artistic techniques by her mother, she began painting at a young age, winning her first open art competition at just 13 years old—beating seasoned artists. She has since become a globally recognised artist, with her work showcased in the Royal Collection at Buckingham Palace and her designs featured on national icons such as the NRL Indigenous All-Stars jerseys, the 2018 Commonwealth Games mascot Borobi, and the Indigenous Military Service $2 coin for the Royal Australian Mint.
Her collaborations span major organisations including Australia Post, Amazon Australia, Queensland Tourism, Reconciliation Australia, Australian Commonwealth Games, Tennis Australia, Australian Cricket, and the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023. Her work has been commissioned by multiple levels of government, the Australian Defence Force, and national sporting bodies.
hern’ee’s art is celebrated not only for its breathtaking detail and colour, but for its storytelling power—capturing the heritage, culture, and spirit of the Kalkadoon people.
The addition of Chern’ee Sutton to the Peggy & Molly Animated Series marks an exciting and meaningful chapter in the show’s development. Together, this collaboration will deliver powerful, joyful, and culturally rich storytelling to children everywhere.
"Bringing Chern’ee Sutton onboard is one of the most exciting and important steps we’ve taken in the journey of Peggy & Molly. Her artistry and cultural storytelling are second to none, and Terry the Turtle’s new shell design will carry the spirit of the Dreamtime into the hearts and minds of children everywhere. This partnership doesn’t just make our series more authentically Australian—it enriches it with a depth of heritage, meaning, and educational value that will resonate for generations. Chern’ee’s work aligns perfectly with our mission to create stories about friendship, acceptance, reconciliation and now, the rich traditions of our First Nations people. I couldn’t be prouder to welcome her to the team." Ken Cantrill, Creator of the Peggy & Molly Animated Series and Head of Creative at Xentrix Studios Australia.
"I’m absolutely thrilled and deeply honoured to be part of the Peggy & Molly project. Being chosen to design Terry the Turtle’s shell is a privilege, and it’s even more special knowing that Terry will be a storyteller, sharing the beauty and wisdom of our culture that has been celebrated for over 65,000 years with the next generation. As an Indigenous Ambassador for the project, I see this as an incredible opportunity to celebrate our culture, inspire young minds, and help weave these ancient narratives into a new chapter of Australian storytelling. It’s a joy to bring art, culture, and education together in such a warm, meaningful, and truly Australian production." Chern’ee Sutton, Artist and Indigenous Ambassador for the Peggy & Molly Project.
