The journey began on Australia’s Gold Coast, where couple Juliette Wells and Reece Mortensen discovered a young magpie chick alone during a walk with their dog Peggy. After observing for hours and confirming that the parent birds did not return, they decided to bring the fragile chick home. What followed was a remarkable bond that nobody could have predicted: the magpie, later named Molly, quickly attached himself to Peggy and began behaving as if she were his mother.
As Molly matured, his feathers began to change, eventually revealing an unexpected twist — he was male, not female. However, by then the name “Molly” had become part of who he was, and the family lovingly kept it.
The upcoming animated series aims to faithfully capture the warmth, humor, and everyday beauty of this interspecies family. Viewers will see Peggy, Molly, and their youngest dog Ruby in familiar scenes inspired by real-life moments: the trio playing in the yard, cuddling together for naps, learning from one another, and navigating life in their own unique way.
Beyond cute storytelling, the show’s creators highlight meaningful themes that reflect what the real Peggy and Molly represent — community, resilience, diversity, acceptance, love, unity, and kindness. The series hopes to introduce these values to younger audiences while offering comfort and positivity to viewers of all ages.
With millions already following their real-life adventures, the animated version of Peggy & Molly is set to bring their message of connection and compassion to an even wider global audience.
